The Lionarchic General Umrad Makharat faces calls for resignation today after a public display of support for the controversial Lionarchic Roarist Party, a move critics call a violation of military neutrality.
The controversy stems from an alleged toast from Makharat to Safez of Roarborne, a powerful member of the LRP's Central Command. Rumours are now spreading that Safez intends to appoint Makharat as Chairman of the Central Command which is considered by experts a tactical move that would allow Safez to rule the party de facto while becoming able to oust internal rivals like Salah. "Makharat's involvement at this time is logical, but extremely unexpected. The LRP have their own armed forces while the government's forces are weakened since the Fangtooth Clan that originally guarded this territory, is now fighting a war in the Royal Primate. We must not be oblivious anymore, anything can happen, and we must keep the Roarists and others in check" an expert said today.
King Leeuwtje of Orleons expressed his shock at the allegations, stating he did not expect such a high-ranking general to maintain good relations with a party that is staunchly anti-monarchist. "I did not expect Makharat of all people to be anti-monarchist" the King said in a brief statement today.
Under Lionarchic law, military personnel must remain impartial regarding politics. Critics argue Makharat's influence over the armed forces make his alleged close ties to the anti-monarchist LRP a threat to the state's stability.
